AN ARTISTIC COMEDY BY JEAN-MICHEL RIBES
Performed in French with English surtitles
MUSÉE HAUT MUSÉE BAS
Panache Adelaide French Theatre is delighted to introduce to Adelaide audiences the theatre of Jean-Michel Ribes, a well known and prolific modern French playwright. Musée Haut Musée Bas is made up of an entertaining collection of vignettes and sketches, all of which take place in art galleries: visitors of all types, guides, workers flood the stage in a rapidly changing series of portraits and landscapes. Ribes’ theatre contains a strong element of absurdism, where the truth is transformed but not hidden. Who is on display? What is on display? What is Art? What role does Nature play in Art? Big questions and intriguing answers dealt with through humour and irony, and a deep understanding of the quirks and foibles of human behaviour.
Audiences can thus be assured of a lively, varied and thought-provoking theatrical experience in which they will surely, from time to time, recognise themselves, reflecting as they go on the place of art in the modern world.
